Review: Unstoppable makes for an enjoyable ride
“This is Will Coalson your conductor speaking, we are gonna run this bitch down.”
Tony Scott is a bit of a schizophrenic when it comes to films. Sometimes you’ll like them (Man on Fire, Crimson Tide), other times you’ll wonder what they hell he was trying to do (Domino) and they are times where he manages to good and poor in the same film (The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3). He can be an infuriating director and thankfully with his new film Unstoppable he manages to craft a very enjoyable film.
It’s funny, fun and exciting in equal doses. It’s the kind of film that goes past in a blur (pun most definitely intended) and for all Tony Scott’s (at times unnecessary) stylistic tics, the easy going charm of both the main leads helps make Unstoppable the fun, entertaining film that it is. Review: Avatar extended edtion – with added fat
Avatar, the biggest box office hit of the century so far, the biggest hit of all time. For better or worse it has evolved the landscape of modern films, taken it to the next level in terms of what we think cinema is capable of. Whatever you may think of Avatar, the effect it’s had is remarkable and undeniable. Considering this is the third edition that’s been released since its theatrical debut last year, is this the version you’ll want to own? Read the rest of this entry
Review: Predators is a pulpy sci-fi B movie
“They can hear you. Smell you. They see you.”
Predator like the Alien franchise has suffered a bit of late. After Predator 2 (shh…it never happened) and the AVP films (shh…they never happened) sapped the credibility of the franchise, it was in need of a pick me up. The original Predator is not a stunning film; you could well argue that seen today it’s not even a good one. It’s an enjoyable one with plethora of great quotes (“I ain’t got time to bleed”) and a good quota of dialogue against shit being blown up/spines being ripped out. Predator 2 and AVP were not so enjoyable so Predators had to up the quality and in doing so rescue the franchise and more importantly the predator itself from being a forgotten relic. Did it achieve its goal?
